Engineer transformed 72-acre lake in Bengaluru from a sewage-filled state to a clean water body in just 7 months

Anand Malligavad is an engineer turned lake conservationist, also known as the "Lake Man of India”. He has been instrumental in restoring numerous lakes in Bengaluru and across India.
Malligavad's dedication to reviving water bodies is evident in his work, having restored over 35 lakes in Bengaluru and many more across India.
Taking to X on New Year’s Day, Malligavad has posted about the situation of the lake in 2023 and how he transformed it in 2024 from lake in sewage-filled state to a clean water body.
He has posted, “ Happy New Year 2025
This is about 72 acres lake well within the city,it was filled with Sewage and Sludge,we took 7 months with 23 earth movers to clean till fresh soil, about 8 feet sludge removed,Now filled with 7-8 feet Rain water.”
Malligavad's efforts have not only improved the environment but have also helped to create awareness about the importance of lake conservation in India.
Overdevelopment & very low rainfall have led to a water scarcity crisis in Bengaluru, a city in India sometimes referred to as the country's Silicon Valley and once known as a "city of lakes."
